Afro-Brazilian Dance
Velly Bahia's class is one of the most beautiful innovations on Afro-Brazilian dance today. It is a combination of African roots and Modern African, based on the dances of the Orixas in the Afro-Brazilian religion called Candomble. You experience a blend of all Brazilian dances not forgetting the beautiful Samba dance.

Velly Bahia
Velly Bahia was born in Salvador, Bahia. He has trained in Afro-Brazilian dance and music for the past 25 years. A former dancer of Ballet Folclorico da Bahia, he came to America performing on Broadway for the dance company OBA OBA. He has choreographed for many dance companies and artists sauch as Aaliyah and has participated in different music videos, film, Television commercials and theatre shows in the US and Brazil. He has also taught in school programs and continues to invest in the exchange of knowledge between Brazil and the United States through Afro-Brazilian dance.

Dance for the Orixas Ogum
Orixas are considered the intermediaries between people and the supreme God and each has his or her own rhythm and movement. The rhythms call or summon particular orixa. The dance is a method of communication between the people and the orixa and ancestral spirits.

Ogum is an orixa or god from the candomble religion brought from Africa to Brazil. The son of Yemanja, Ogum enjoys widespread popularity in many different nations (sects) of candomble such as Ketu, Gegi and Nago nations. Ogum is recognized as the god of metal and technology. As a blacksmith he was responsible for forgoing the weapons of war such as the sword, which he has used to fight many battles for the less privileged. His efforts in war are always successful. Although he is a fierce warrior with legendary temper, he is honest, responsible and hard working. Ogum is a workaholic and cannot tolerate lazy people. In Candomble ceremony after summoning Exu we call on Egum as he is the one who can clear the path for us. His day is Tuesday and his colors are silver and blue like the metal he works with. The dance for Ogum resembles a battle. As if he is in war he cuts his way through to freedom, using his sword and shield and always watching for the opponent.
